With over 3000 students enrolled in the programme in 2025 and nearly 70 active teams, UPV Design Factory has established itself since its inception in 2014 as the great launch pad for interdisciplinary projects created by students at the Universitat Politècnica de València. Eleven years after its launch, one of its major demands is beginning to become a reality: its own building.
As confirmed by the Rector of the Universitat Politècnica de València, José Capilla, construction of the new building will begin in two months on the site next to the Faculty of Fine Arts. The Area Director of the Vice-Rectorate for Infrastructure and Campus Coordination, David Llopis, explains that the work is expected to take 337 days, approximately 11 months. It will be operational by the 2026- 2027 academic year.
The building will cover more than 3000 square metres, divided into a ground floor, first floor and roof floor, with landscaped areas and paved outdoor spaces. It will combine workshops and teamwork spaces that can be adapted to the needs of different teams. It will have co-working spaces, meeting rooms, workshops, and warehouses, which, according to the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Alberto Conejero, "will enable greater collaboration between students with different profiles, promoting interdisciplinary work, which is key to the programme's success".
The total budget for the construction and equipment of the new building amounts to €8.1 million. Conejero points out that ‘the UPV Design Factory programme is a leader in terms of student involvement and results in international competitions. The university already has spaces equipped for the programme, such as the former shopping arcade opposite the sports facilities. This new building is intended to adapt to the needs of the different teams’.
