The Faraday Rocketry team from the Universitat Politècnica de València has been crowned European flight champion this week at the EuRoC.
EuRoC is a unique initiative in Europe that challenges European university students to design, develop and build rockets. Promoted by the since 2020, it is now in its sixth edition. It was held in the Portuguese town of Constância from 9 to 15 October.
Skybraker is the name of the rocket launched by the Faraday Rocketry Team from the Universitat Politècnica de València. It achieved a flawless take-off and a smooth, predictable trajectory. The rocket reached an exact apogee of 3,021 metres according to CATS avionics and 3,025 metres with the SRAD system. A multidisciplinary team made up of 46 students from 20 different degrees.
‘The braking parachute deployed exactly at apogee and, although the main parachute did not open, the vehicle landed gently near the launch rail, remaining almost completely intact, with only minor damage,’ explained Luna Marhuenda Latorre, leader of the Faraday Rocketry Team and a student of the Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Engineering at the UPV.
'The team is delighted with the performance and results of the flight, which successfully met the technical objectives set for this year's mission. This milestone brings Faraday Rocketry one step closer to one of its main goals: reaching space and becoming the first university team to do so,' she added.
The overall winner of EuRoC25 was the Austrian team Aerospace Team Graz (ASTG).
The UPV Design Factory programme, a pioneer in Spanish universities, is a launch pad for initiatives arising exclusively from UPV students. It promotes "learning by doing" and enhances cross-curricular competencies, as well as the mentor-student relationship. It also encourages and supports their participation in university competitions, both nationally and internationally.
